TIME road and MTB pedals utilize cleats that allow float, which is free movement of the foot prior to release. Float is measured by how much your foot can move (angularly and laterally) while clipped in and pedaling; this reduces strain on the knee during the pedaling motion.
TIME ROAD CLEAT FLOAT
The XPRO and XPRESSO series pedals come with the ICLIC cleat, which offers +/-5° of angular float and +/-1.25mm of lateral float. A "fixed" ICLIC cleat with 0mm of lateral float and +/-5° angular float is available separately for road pedals, SRAM part number 00.6718.023.000.
TIME MTB CLEAT FLOAT
TIME MTB cleats come in 2 versions, both of which have +/-5° of angular float and +/-2.5mm of lateral float. Standard ATAC cleats features a 13° or 17° release angle, depending on cleat orientation, ATAC Easy offers a 10° release angle. This 10° release angle requires less rider movement to release from the pedal. We recommend that riders who are new to clipless pedals start with the ATAC Easy cleats.
